When Deborah came to me, she already had a website she’d built herself — and it had served her well for years.
But she knew she wasn’t making the most of its design potential. Her artwork is rich with layers, stitching, colour and expressive details, and she wanted her online home to feel just as thoughtful and visually engaging.
We took the bones of what was already working and reimagined the experience — creating a beautiful, easy-to-navigate home for her artwork, workshops, writing and creative life.
And along the way, we found ways to bring Deborah’s own hand into the design, quite literally.
Our Collaborative Process
We looked closely at her existing website.
Deborah’s existing website held years of artwork, writing, teaching and professional history. We looked closely at how the site had been serving her, what she wanted to carry forward, and where the design, structure and experience could better support the work she’s doing now.
We brought her hand into the design.
When none of the fonts we explored felt quite like Deborah, she picked up a Sharpie and wrote her own name. She also sketched some of the embroidery stitches she uses in her artwork. Those simple marks became her logo and graphic elements woven throughout the site.
We made more room for her work.
Her artwork needed to shine, but the site also needed to hold workshops, lectures, exhibitions, publications and writing without feeling crowded. The new structure gives each part of her creative practice room to breathe.
Shelagh has an amazing combination of skills. Her attention to detail is unmatched. I was inspired and energized by her sense of design -- she made my website look beautiful while also completely user friendly. She blends this expertise with a sense of personal storytelling, honoring my vision and voice and guiding me to organize and prioritize the elements of my website ways that truly reflect me and my work.
